Bran Solo
Bran Sólo is a Spanish painter and illustrator born in 1985 in Abarán, Murcia. Working with a unique visual perspective shaped by a macular retinal condition that creates a kaleidoscopic perception of reality, Bran Sólo's work explores themes of contemporary loneliness, masculinity, and emotional vulnerability through haunting, melancholic imagery.
His paintings—characterized by Mediterranean blue palettes reminiscent of the sea—depict solitary male figures in moments of raw emotional honesty. These men cry, feel, and reveal their fragility, challenging traditional notions of masculinity. A recurring motif of delicate reddish plants (Tradescantia, or "Man's Love") emerges from their bodies like feelings sprouting from wounds, visualizing the struggle between societal expectations and authentic emotional expression.
Graduated from the School of Art of Murcia in 2014 with special honors for his Tarot de Laguna project, Bran Sólo has exhibited internationally including at ArtGaysel Miami Beach during Art Basel, the Carmen Thyssen Museum in Málaga, and galleries across Europe and the United States. In 2017, he co-founded Círculo de Artistas Paloma Negra, a collective rejecting artistic vacuity in favor of meaningful, technically skilled work.
His practice—working primarily from photography due to his visual condition—creates contemplative scenes where nudity serves as radical sincerity, stripping away social context to reveal pure emotional truth. Currently based near the Mar Menor in Murcia, Bran Sólo continues exploring the intersections of science and art, frustrated masculinity, and the profound human experience of feeling profoundly alone.
