The feeling of disappointment is not only close to regret, sadness, and dissatisfaction – a feeling of loss, an uncomfortable space (or a painful gap) between expectations and reality – we also understand it as a rattling in the rusty machinery of a society whose fuel is extraction and oppression.

This issue explores disappointment as a political and emotional force, reframing so-called “negative” feelings as acts of resistance and collective care. Through letters, essays, and transfeminist perspectives, it examines how sadness, disillusionment, and unmet expectations can open space for rebellion, solidarity, and imagining alternative futures.
