About the Artist

Nicolae Negură is a Romanian visual artist and illustrator currently based in Lisbon, Portugal. His work focuses on figurative painting and drawing, engaging with themes of personal narratives, identity, and the human condition. His practice is marked by expressive figuration influenced by vintage comics, combining vivid colors applied with soft, flat brushstrokes or delicate gradients and contrasted with bold, irregular contours. Motivated by a strong creative impulse to communicate emotions, his work consistently examines themes of identity, vulnerability, and anxiety while giving space to personal and intimate stories.

Laceoni is an anagram of Nicolae’s name and has been used as a signature for personal projects that delve into homoeroticism, love, and queer male identities. It represents a gay erotic art practice centered on sex positivity and the male body. Through this project, he seeks to portray sex in a more intimate and nuanced way, moving away from conventional pornography by highlighting elements such as shared pleasure, expressive faces, tenderness, humor, intensity, and the simple joy of masturbation.
